Giant spider[Next Page - Mackinac butterflies]

I was walking across my driveway last night and found this odd-looking spider sitting on the concrete. Local experts identify it as a beneficial cat-faced spider. It looks gigantic in the images but the body is about the size of a thumbnail. There was strong wind overnight and it either blew away or sought refuge in the grass. Click on one of the images to see a larger version.

As I said, the spider actually wasn't that big, but I do remember this truly giant spider that I saw ambling across the desert floor in Saguaro National Park in 2002.
