The Draconid meteor shower is supposed to be underway, so I set up a timelapse with the 14mm lens on the old 1D Mark II. I set the intervalometer to 90 second exposures and wanted to get 280 images over seven hours. However, I only ended up with 140 as the camera and the intervalometer didn't retrigger after one second, waiting 90 seconds instead. This blew up my plans to have a star trails image with meteor trails streaking in all directions. And I think I only got one meteor trail instead of the dozens I had hoped for.

But the Northern Lights saved the night. Apparently they were going when I started the camera, but I didn't see them. It goes to show how much light an f/2.8 lens can gather in 90 seconds. But because I was going for star trails, there is actually some trailing in these images. If I just want the Aurora, I should shorten the exposure time to 25 seconds or less. But, for a first (accidental) attempt at the Northern Lights, these aren't bad.
